In a Maradona style, Ugwuanyi did not have the courage or courtesy to tell Edeoga or Ubosi that he had changed his mind and anointed another person to succeed him instead of any of them. When other gubernatorial aspirants started yielding their aspiration to make way for Mbah to emerge, Edeoga who came to the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium where the primary was held, felt like a hen drenched in the rain as it was clear that his political boat was about to capsize and capsize it did because eight aspirants out of the seventeen of them openly withdrew from the race to make way for Mbah to emerge. Observers said what gave vim to the belief is that being a Commissioner, Edeoga would not have resigned if he had not been given a nod by Ugwuanyi himself that he was going to takeover from him.Īnalysts in the state and Edeoga’s admirers had given it to him and had indeed started to address him as, “Your Excellency.” Many political pundits were disappointed when at the end of the day, Edeoga did not emerge as the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). ![]() Chijoke Edeoga was also widely seen as the person that would succeed Gov. Ugwuanyi, from what transpired during the PDP governorship primary where the former Commissioner for Finance and Chief of Staff to former governor Chimaroke Nnamani, Dr. ![]() In fairness to Ugwuanyi, he never said that he would give power to any person or any zone but kept people in suspense thereby giving the impression that at the appropriate time, he would make public his preferred candidate or better still the zone where the governorship position would go. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, though never gave false hopes like IBB but he behaved exactly like IBB in the build up to the choice of his successor.
